We would like to say what a fabulous first week we have all had with such a positive and happy start to the new school year.
The week started with Monday singing assembly lead by our new Music teacher Mrs Slaymaker. Mrs Slaymaker taught us to warm up our voices using special breathing exercises. We all enjoyed this. The children and the teachers have begun to learn the new Deepdene school song ‘One more step along the world I go’. The children were very enthusiastic and their voices sounded beautiful. Once learnt, we will sing this song at all Deepdene School events.
This week has seen the introduction of the new playtime boxes. This is a new system to expose the children to a range of different play equipment each week. We hope that the children will learn new physical skills as well as enhancing cooperation and fun. The children have been very engaged and happy during playtimes since the introduction of the boxes. The new hula hoops have been well used this week with the children even teaching the teachers tricks. We can’t wait for the turn of the circus box to practice our juggling and spinning plate skills.
The Reception children have had an excellent start to school. All the children have come in with smiles on their faces and are getting used to new their new classroom and routines.
Year 1 are settling very well in their new classroom and have enjoyed learning how to sequence stories this week and write descriptive sentences.
Year 2 have had an exciting start to the term, they had a busy week doing self portraits in Art, learning about number bonds and also have started exploring the history of Brighton.
Year 3 have begun to learn about the Stone Age and are finding it a fascinating topic. They already have lots of questions that they need to find the answers to and can’t wait for their trip and Stone Age day.
Year 4 are enjoying their new topic learning about Egyptians, prior to their school trip to Brighton Museum where they will be taking part in an Ancient Egyptian Workshop. Bringing our curriculum alive is something we pride ourselves on at Deepdene. They have also been exploring solids, liquids and gases in Science.
Pier and Pavilion enjoyed Latin with Mrs Viney in her role as Head of Classics, they have written beautiful poems to go in their memory boxes which look fabulous displayed in their classrooms. They have also been very busy writing their letters applying for positions of responsibility throughout the School. The interviews will be taking place next week and Mr Blond will be visiting us to help with these.
Following feedback from parents, we will now be sending you, as a separate Parentmail, the ‘Deepdene Diary’ each week.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. The care of your children is always our number one priority.
