It is essential that the children are given a routine as if they were at school. This includes a regular snack time, not in lesson time please, and a space to work. They should, if possible, be sat on a chair at a table and have space to work. If it would help, we can loan out school desks to you to create this work space. Please let us know if you would like to borrow one. We know that it is a challenge to find that space as many of our teachers have had to also turn a corner of their own homes into a classroom.
The children may also need your help in organising their work so that each subject is filed away correctly after each lesson and easy to access for the next lesson. Maybe the purchase of some colourful folders may help and make things easier to find. The children may enjoy decorating the folders and labelling them with the different subjects. This will help the children to focus and engage in all the learning and not feel worried about not finding the right sheet at the right time.
Year 3 were able to enjoy a virtual visit to the Samsung Digit Discovery Centre at the British Museum this week. This was all about pre-history and supports their learning in history. We will be looking into more sessions that the children can access online that supports their learning and adds variety to what they are doing.
I know that the children have enjoyed their live sport sessions this week with Mr Adams. We are really pleased to be able to offer these sessions live to get the children up and moving. Mr Adams says that lots of Fit Points were awarded and to give a special mention to Year 4 for your incredible effort. I know that the children have also enjoyed their drama lessons this week and this has been another opportunity to get up and moving.
I will be taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch at the end of the month. I have put the link on the Deepdene Community page on the DB platform. Please take a look. It’s a fun activity to complete as a family. You will need to sign up online and then will receive a free guide to help you identify what you will see.
My Head Librarian, Anya, wanted me to let you all know about something that one of her favourite authors taking part in. Celebrated author Michael Morpurgo tells the story of Twelfth Night. This video is free to watch until Monday, just search Michael Morpurgo’s tales from Shakespeare from the RSC.
I would like to invite all members of the school community to join my Eco Club on Tuesdays at 3pm starting next week. This will be a half an hour session where we will look at what we can do to tackle environmental issues. A Parentmail will follow with the Zoom login details.
We are still working towards our Silver Award as part of the Eco Schools scheme and this will be part of the evidence of what we are doing. We would usually tackle this within our School Council meetings but I think that involving everyone that has an interest in this is more beneficial at this stage.
We are all looking forward to the Deepdene Valentine Disco. Ms Rosen would like your song requests and so please email her on DB with those. Maybe spend some time this weekend practising dance moves!
Please stay safe.
