Thank you to everyone who was able to walk to school this week, even part of the way, it was good to make the children aware of the important issue of clean air and started some great discussions in school.
Final House meetings were held on Monday when our House captains showed photos of our fabulous House Day, discussed the years fundraising and practised House chants. School Council also met on Tuesday to talk about the progress that has been made on the class suggestions for changes. Amongst other things lots of new playground equipment has been bought, another picnic table for the main playground is on order and we are looking at what books the children would like on their classroom bookshelves. It is great for the children to see what changes they are making in their school.
Our Year 5 and 6 classes headed to PGL Windmill Hill on Wednesday for their residential trip. They enjoyed the zip wire, rifle shooting , canoeing and climbing amongst lots of other activities. They worked brilliantly as a team. A big thank you goes out to the teachers that went on the trip and supported the children.
Year 4 enjoyed a sports session at Roedean this week. After a tour of the farm they took part in a hockey session. This was lots of fun and they can’t wait until they are able to go to Roedean again every week. Year 4 also had a Victorian session on Friday as part of their History topic. They dressed as Victorians, worked on slates with chalk and played playground games such as marbles, hopscotch and five stones. The class have never been so quiet!
We are very sorry not to be inviting you along to our Sports Day next week. But we know that the children will still very much enjoy the event. The children will support each other by cheering for their House members and we have ice-lollies donated by the DPA to enjoy back at school afterwards.
Gardening Club on Fridays continue to work hard on those weeds around the school and the Deepdene Band are already sounding wonderful. It is so lovely to see the children coming together in these different groups, working together and supporting one another.
We have tea towels for sale for £1 everyday next week. Please do purchase these if you can. All proceeds go to the DPA fund.
Have a lovely weekend.
