The children have settled brilliantly back into school life and are clearly very happy to be back. But what a busy week this was! Year 2 headed to the Royal Pavilion to enhance their history learning on Monday. Also on Monday, Year 3 and 4 spent the entire day at Roedean School exploring the subject, geography. They roamed the grounds using maps and immersed themselves in atlases. Year 5 and 6 spent the day at Roedean on Friday, their focus was Classics. These enrichment days run every half term for these year groups and are a wonderful addition to our curriculum.
On Tuesday Mr Blond, Head teacher of Roedean School, helped me conduct interviews with some of our Year 6 pupils. This was for the position of Head Pupil. The rest of the week Mr Adams, Mrs Slaymaker and I have been interviewing the rest of Year 5 and 6 children for other senior positions. They all spoke passionately about why they deserved the position they had applied for and it will be a very tough decision. Announcements will be next week. Mr Blond did pop in to see our wonderful school band during their morning rehearsals and was amazed at how fantastic they are already sounding.
We are running a Deepdene playgroup on a Friday mornings. This is from 9.30-10.45am and is proving very popular.
I hope to see lots of you at the Deepdene Association picnic in Wish Park this afternoon. It starts at 3.30pm and is a chance for the children to play and the adults to find out about what the Association has planned for the year ahead and how everyone can get involved.
Looking ahead next week Ms Rosen and Mrs Perrett have a ‘Keeping your children safe online’ meeting for the Prep children on Wednesday 29th September at 8.30-9am. This will be in the school hall and will be a chance to get support and guidance.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Gane and Ms Hayward
