Huge congratulations to all those children who completed the ISA triathlon last Friday. You are all amazing and gave it everything. 23 Prep Schools across the South East took part and Deepdene entered 12 children into the running, swimming and cycling event. Overall Deepdene came 4th out of the 23 schools. Three athletes this year, Millie, Annabelle and Eva have beaten our Deepdene record time to be ranked within the top 20 out of 94 athletes. Millie was our superstar reaching 6th position (just missed out of qualifying by 2 places for the national final). In the boy’s race Cameron and Bodee made the top 50 out of 97 athletes with Cameron making 37th place. We are so proud!
Our calendar competition winners were announced during Monday’s assembly and so we hope to have the Deepdene calendar on sale very soon.
House meetings were held this week for the first time. Heads of Houses prepared PowerPoints to present at their meetings. They voted on the charity that they would like to support this year and fundraising events are being planned. The first of these is today with Arundel’s Halloween dress up. Two more events are planned for after half term, details to follow.
Our first School Council meeting was also held this week and our Head and Deputy did a great job of explaining what the School Council is about and that it is the pupil voice of the school.
The children in Year 5, along with our Sports Captain, went along to a Netball fixture on Thursday at Shoreham College. They played well and drew one match and lost the other. They enjoyed pizza and cookies provided by the College for all their hard work.
The children are continuing to benefit from their weekly enrichment sessions at Roedean School. Last week they enjoyed composing their own music and this week they completed a maths enrichment session, with lots of puzzles to solve, next week the focus will be on poetry. The children are gaining so much from these sessions planned and taught by the wonderful teachers at Roedean.
We hope that you will all be able to come along to our Open House on Thursday 14th October, 8.30-9am. The children really enjoy being able to show you their work and all the things that they have been up to in class.
Our Head Librarian, Hester launched a library competition this week. She has asked the children to write a spooky poem and decorate the page with spooky pictures. She has made a box for the finished entries to go into in the library and will be awarding spooky prizes after half term. The deadline is Wednesday 13th October. Please encourage your child to enter the competition.
Thank you everyone that brought money in today to support our first House fundraiser. Arundel House have decided to raise money for the PDSA. Founded in 1917 by animal welfare pioneer, Maria Dickin CBE, PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity. Every year, the dedicated teams at the 48 Pet Hospitals work tirelessly to provide 2.7 million veterinary treatments – including 440,000 preventative treatments.
Have a lovely weekend.
