Welcome back, we hope that you all had a great half term break.
Thank you to the Deepdene Association for providing the funding for the 20 new yoga mats and to Olivia Knight-Adams for sourcing sustainable mats. The Year 6 children are really enjoying using them for their weekly yoga sessions. We now hope to be able to offer more sessions across the school.
Year 6 enjoyed their visit to the Sealife Centre on Monday combining their Oceans topic in Geography with this term’s STEM Plastics Challenge. The children learnt so much about marine creatures and how to protect their environment.
Also on Monday Year 3 had a great afternoon visiting Hove Library. They listened to some stories and got to borrow lots of books! Each class will take it in turns to make a library visit.
Our Head Librarian announced the winners of her spooky poem competition in Good Work Assembly this week. Well done to Scarlett, Arya, Maisie and Etty who were all runners up and to Heidi who came fourth, Bodee third, Safwaan second and Amyra who came in at first place. They all received prizes. A brilliant result! Well done to Hester for organising such a great competition.
Some of the children are attending an ISA U11 5 a side Football tournament today. So we have our fingers crossed for them. We know that they will do their best.
Year 4 are attending a workshop at Brighton Museum today. They will have the chance to take part in a mummification and learn lots more to support their history topic, Ancient Egypt. They will also have the opportunity to explore the museum.
This week all teachers and children across the school have been learning about COP26. The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. We have taken part in the WWF Forest of Promises by each writing a promise to the planet on a paper leaf. These are now displayed in our Reception area and next week Eco Club will be on the front gate asking parents to also make promises to the planet.
Years 3,4,5 and 6 will be spending a day at Roedean next week for their next enrichment day. They will attend for the whole day and be taught by the Roedean teachers. Both days promise to be exciting and the children will gain a lot from this experience.
Have a lovely weekend.
