Dear Parents

We are pleased to welcome new members into our school community in Years 5 and 6 this term. We know that the children will make them feel very welcome.

DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) week has been fantastic and we have all benefitted from the chance to read more. I have visited each class to spend time reading with them and it has been a pleasure to see them enjoy that time.  I have even heard children asking to extend the time and have DEAR week every week.

Our Upper School children went to Roedean yesterday to take part in a creative writing workshop run by Helen Peters. Helen is an author who has kindly visited us several times during our World Book Day celebrations and a favourite of the children. I know that the children found this an exciting session and came back full of new ideas to write stories about.

The children have also begun swimming at Roedean pool and are in fact swimming to space! As part of ‘Space Week’, Mr Adams is asking the children to swim the shortest distance to space, 62 miles. The 62 miles is divided between the children, with each child swimming their own distance in the pool towards the overall total.

Excitement is building for ‘Space Week’ and teachers are busy planning to make it a really memorable week for the children. Don’t forget children are being asked to dress up on Friday 28th January. There are prizes for this!

Eco Club will be going to Wish Park this afternoon to take part in a litter pick. This was supposed to happen last term but had to be cancelled. Eco Club know the importance of keeping our environment clean and the damaging effects of litter. The litter pickers have been kindly lent to us by the Friends of Wish Park group.

We will be holding our next Open House on Tuesday 1st February. This is another chance for you to come into school to see your child’s work and find out a little of more about what they have been learning about.  Please put the date in your diary.

Calendars are now on sale at Miss Taylor’s desk at the reduced price of £4 each.

If you have borrowed any uniform, sports or swimming kit please can you return it to us as we rely on this for when children need it.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Mrs Gane and Ms Hayward
