Year 6 competed in the ISA Regional Qualifying Netball Tournament last Friday. Again Deepdene were so very close in qualifying for the National Finals. They were in the quarter final up until the last 10 seconds of our last game when the qualifying team scored to make it 1-1. They pushed us 5th in the league instead of 4thand only the four top teams qualified. This was another fantastic organised tournament by Lingfield College. Well done Year 6! We are very proud and it was a great performance by all! Our Year 6 Sports Captain proudly presented certificates to all of Year 6 in our Good Work assembly.
‘Inside Out Day’ was a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on children’s mental health. Each class had a yoga session in the hall with Mrs Watkins and a mindfulness session in their classrooms with Mrs Rhodes. Class teachers also planned sessions focusing on kindness and gratitude as well as mindful colouring and eating. Mrs King planned sessions for her class around the Science of Relaxation. It incorporated learning about the brain and understanding how anxiety affects our bodies, linking with relaxation techniques and why they work. Mrs King said ‘I think it’s really important for children to understand why their body reacts in certain ways when they’re worried so that they can equip themselves with an internal ‘keep calm toolbox’ for when things get on top of them’.
Self-defence at Roedean on Thursday was very popular with the children really enjoying this new experience. As well as self-defence all the children swam at Roedean on Thursday. Amazingly they completed another 400 lengths towards the total of lengths we need to swim to Space!
The Bodiam disco was a great way to end our half term. The children all enjoyed themselves and certainly let off some steam. All money raised will go towards their charity, Raystede. Raystede is a local centre that provides animal welfare.
For your information we will be holding our World Book Day celebrations on Friday 4th March. We will of course all be dressing up and holding our fashion show. There are more author visits planned and lots of exciting book themed things going on. More details to follow.
Lastly we wanted to say huge congratulations to all our Year 6 children that got news this week about scholarships that they had worked so hard for. We are so pleased for you. It is a very proud moment for you all.
We wish you all an enjoyable half term break and look forward to seeing the children on their return to school.
