Dear Parents

A huge thank you for your amazing generosity on Monday. I have never seen so many cakes! It was such a great atmosphere at the cake sale as the children really felt the good that they were doing and who doesn’t love cake. The cake sale raised a whopping £354! Well done Emma and Harley for coming up with the initial idea. All money has gone to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Year 3 had a fabulous time at Herstmonceux Science Centre on Monday. The children explored the exhibits and took part in a workshop. It is a wonderful hands-on place and inspired all of our mini scientists.

Roger Stevens, a children’s poet who has written over 40 children’s books, visited us on Tuesday to give us a performance of some of his poetry and then ran a workshop with both the Lower and Upper School. The children had a lot of fun.

Years 5 and 6 attended Roedean School on Thursday for their History Experience day. They were set the task of solving a historical murder by searching for clues. Year 4 had their regular session there too and we should complete our swim to Space next week.

For our second author visit of the week we had Helen Peters join Years 2 and 3 on Thursday for a creative writing session. After looking at the format of Helen’s books for younger readers, the children practised writing their own version. The only complaint from the children was that the session wasn’t long enough and finished too soon!

Reception class and Nursery had a visitor today as part of their topic, ‘People who help us’. Police Officer Jon came in and spoke with the Reception class about stranger danger.

We are excited to let you know that some of us are in the Argus newspaper today with a selection of our World Book Day photos. There will also be an article on our Cake Sale appearing in the Argus tomorrow.

Please note that our next Parents Evening will be on Thursday 24th March. We want to hold this in person at school as we feel that we haven’t been able to do this for so long. Timings for sessions will be sent out by Miss Taylor next week.

Please do sign the permission forms for the Year 5 and 6 trip to the National Gallery which takes place next week.

We have red noses for sale on Miss Taylor’s desk at the moment. Lottie, our Charity Representative, has asked for us all to wear our own clothes and bring in a donation on the day. Red Nose Day is Friday 18th March.

We have sent out a ‘Save the Date ‘for a whole school disco we have planned for the end of term. We are hiring a local hall and would love the whole school to attend. We will be selling tickets very soon, please look out for more details.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Mrs Gane and Ms Hayward
