At Deepdene ‘Knowing your child’ is at the centre of what we do.
Deepdene is a well-established, independently owned, co-educational Nursery and Prep School in Hove. The school offers provision from 6 months to 11 years. We have approximately 155 pupils on role, with an almost equal split of boys and girls.
Deepdene was founded in 1948 as a privately owned and managed school. More than half a century later Deepdene remains truly independent, managed by joint proprietors Nicola Gane and Elizabeth Brown.
Both Nicola and Elizabeth work very closely together to get to know the children and their families, across both the Nursery and School; although they both have very clearly defined roles within Deepdene.
Nicola Gane is the Head of the Nursery and oversees the care and provision of children aged 6 months- 5 years. Elizabeth Brown is the Headteacher and is responsible for the management and leadership of the School, as well as the education and welfare of the school pupils.
Although academic excellence and success in Music, Drama, Art and Sports is of course a high priority, we pride ourselves in our nurturing environment and the moral attitude that prevails. Students and staff alike play their part in looking after the needs of others in the school community. We very much believe in praise and the celebration of success, from our 6 month old babies to our 11 year old children. This contributes to the exciting and happy learning environment of both the Nursery and School.
Along with all teaching staff, Nicola Gane and Elizabeth Brown take a personal interest in the development of all the pupils at the school and get to know all the families of the pupils of the school very well. Deepdene consistently achieves high academic results with many of our Year 6 pupils gaining top scholarships and awards at their chosen senior schools. As a non-denominational school we welcome children from many different faiths and cultures. Our ethos and teaching create a small inclusive community of engaged learners who develop as confident individuals and understand the importance of kindness and respect.
